Despite much of the cycling season being behind us now, there are still events you can get involved in that are suitable for any level of rider. This blog will offer you some information about these events and how you can get involved. The remaining events of the year consist of cyclosportives, time trials and some charitable rides.

Cyclosportives

What is a Cyclosportive? They have become a firm fixture in the worldwide cycling calendar in recent years, they offer a good test for both seasoned racers and newcomers. The challenge can be as gruelling or straightforward as you wish. The great thing is there is always a slight competitive element with categories and prizes awarded to the fastest finishers. As well as the use of timing chips ensuring a healthy level of competitiveness is always present no matter what. The remaining

sportives taking place in Sussex for the upcoming months are:

3rd October - The Puncheur Cyclosportive

A sell out every year, this sportive is not a long list of nasty climbs, neither is it extreme endurance. You'll just need to keep a good pace along a 62 mile distance, and to keep your rhythm up and over the short climbs and summit finish. Tickets are £29.50 visit www.sportive.com for more.

28th November - UKCE Gravel Series: South Downs

This sportive is designed for riders of all abilities to come and give some off road riding a go. The event starts at Amberley open air museum. Your gravel adventure will bring you back into Amberley through the market town of Arundel, so make sure you take time to look for the medieval Arundel Castle perched on top of the hill. The route can be challenging in sections but nothing even the most cautious of rider can't handle if taken nice and steadily. Tickets are available and cost £10 visit www.sportive.com for more.

Time trials

What is Time Trialling? It is the simplest of competitive formats: a race against the clock, with riders starting a minute apart. It's often known as the 'race of truth' because there's nowhere to hide, no one to draft behind; just you and the bike.
